Deconstructing Disinformation: (Re)Creations of Referents in the (Con)Textual Universe

Our article aims to analyze how referential networks can textually highlight disinformation, identifying falsified referents and what distorted relationships they can acquire in social media posts, based on a sociocognitive analysis. We start from Textual Linguistics, dealing with referencing as a dynamic process of (re)constructing discursive objects (Cavalcante et al, 2022), forming referential networks (Matos, 2018a; 2018b). We propose a study in dialogue with Communication, addressing Disinformation Ecosystem according to Wardle (2020) and Wardle and Derakshan (2017). We also assume Charaudeau (2006; 2022) assumptions about denial of the truth, such as manipulation. Our methodology is qualitative and documentary, with a sample of ten cases on social networks, with the discussion of two, verified by checking agencies (Lupa and Aos Fatos). By mapping the referential networks of the texts, we identified which referents were distorted based on the recognition of the types of informational disorder. With this, we examine referential processes revealing relationships between referents through (con)textual anchorings. Preliminary data point to the existence of distorted referents both as elements of the text and the (techno)discursive context, revealing the importance of the agency of knowledge (scientific, normative, factual) that moves referential (re)constructions, as well as the recognition of authorship in favor of interpretations that should or should not be authorized, in the deconstruction of disinformation.
