This paper aims to discuss methodological and practical perspectives concerning the reading of canonical literary texts at school. The current investigation presents a case study undertaken with two groups of students; the first group included eighth-grade students from the municipal school system; the second one, on the other hand, encompassed junior high technical High School from the federal education system. Furthermore, this research also intended to identify how the organization and systematization processes of literature in the education setting, most often in a compartmentalized manner, preclude its effective presence as a transforming agent and the access to knowledge about the world.
