This article aims to analyze Elementary School third-graders’ gender representations based on activities regarding fairy tales and their reinventions. The study took place as a pedagogical intervention with the participation of students from a state school in Santa Catarina, Brazil. For the implementation of the activities, the Bakhtinian concepts of reading and writing as continuous processes, the concepts of children’s imaginary development through fairy tales and the importance of critical consciousness development were paramount. The Anti-Princess and Anti-Hero collections were used to present other configurations of princes and princesses for children. By analyzing students’ texts and drawings, it was possible to observe that, on the one hand, students introduced in their stories elements close to gender stereotypes present in many fairy tales and, on the other hand, their productions – derived from the work on the Anti-Princess and Anti-Hero Collections — presented instances of recontextualization and resignification.
