A força argumentativa de “porém”: uma proposta de análise

Partindo da concepção argumentativa da linguagem, reconhecemos, assim como Ducrot (1981), que os argumentos não constituem provas para conclusões, ao invés disso, existem argumentos mais fortes e mais fracos para uma determinada conclusão, marcados por operadores argumentativos (OA), que têm a função de orientar argumentativamente os enunciados, indicando a direção para a qual apontam. Segundo Ducrot (1981), os argumentos orientados para uma mesma conclusão constituem uma classe argumentativa, no interior da qual, podem se organizar hierarquicamente, constituindo uma escala argumentativa. Dentre os operadores argumentativos, interessa-nos porém, por esse operador apresentar propriedades peculiares em relação ao seu uso, que, acreditamos, possam interferir na sua força argumentativa, que, segundo Koch (2003), consiste, basicamente, em introduzir argumentos mais fortes no texto. Nesse sentido, este estudo tem como objetivo examinar a força argumentativa de porém. Para isso: (i) Utilizamos as noções de classe e escala argumentativa de Ducrot (1981); (ii) Selecionamos oito ocorrências de porém. Por meio da análise das ocorrências de porém percebemos que esse operador argumentativo pode introduzir, além de argumentos mais fortes, argumentos com a mesma força argumentativa de argumentos anteriores aos introduzidos por ele e pode não ter força argumentativa, sendo somente essa última possibilidade de força decorrente de uma de suas propriedades peculiares.Downloads
