This essay identifies two major objectives of contemporary interarts studies: the investigation of interrelations among "the arts" and the pursuit of topics in cultural studies and other transdisciplinary discuorses that involve texts in several arts. It focuses on the first, primarily semiotic , orientation and discusses questions of representation, intertextuality, the combination and fusion of semiotics codes, ekphrasis, intersemiotic transposition, adaptation and the role of the reader.Downloads
