Abstract

The contemporary Arab short story takes on various and diverse forms – the short and intense writing of Asia Ali Musa seems to explore formats previously unfamiliar to the traditional literary universe of Arabic-language productions in recent decades. In this article, we present the translation, along with reflections on the translation process itself, of a short story named "Iguana... the Lizard" (al’iguana... alhardhun). Making an explicit reference to Tennessee Williams, the story presents an enigmatic and poetic language, flooded with unusual metaphors, which cover a subjective perspective of the female experience in existence.
