This article presents a translation of the short story “I Saw the Palm Trees”, from the collection of the same name, written by Radwa Ashour (1946-2014), a distinguished Egyptian writer and literary critic. The writing style and techniques employed by the author in this collection, first published in 1989, highlight a moment of maturity in the short story genre, established in Arabic literature in the 20th century. From everyday situations, the stories in this book delve into deeper social issues and themes, such as personal relationships in contemporary society. In the story “I Saw the Palm Trees" the protagonist’s roots and memories are intricately linked to plants and cultivation.
