Abstract

The world spoke arabic: The Classical Arab-Islamic Civilization  in the ouevre of Ibn Khaldun and Ibn Battuta, by Beatriz Bissio, originated from her PhD thesis completed in 2008 in the History Department of Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Bissio analyses two books from two great travellers from the muslim world: Muqaddimah, from the historian Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), and Through Islam, the travelling memoirs of Ibn Battuta (1304-1368). Divided in two parts, the book presentes in each of its seve chapters importante characteristics from the general history of Islam in a clear and synthetic language, mixing it with the particulars of the books. It is travelling in the books of both of these authors  that we discover the Arab-Islamic empires in all their complexities.

Fez mestrado em História na Escola de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (EFLCH-Unifesp) e atualmente é doutoranda em História pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF).
