Abstract

This article aims at reflecting on the teaching of Ancient History and on the dissemination and the perception of this knowledge in Brazilian society, especially in the political sphere. In order to do so, we will start by analyzingcurrent Brazilian political conjuncture in which the educational reform’s model will directly impact the teaching about Antiquity in Basic Education. We will demonstrate the importance of teaching Ancient Historyfor educational purposesand its potential for the practice of a type ofeducation that prioritizes values linked to citizenship and individual autonomy.
