Besides the various cults in the Roman Empire, the ancient Greek mystery cults became popular and resurfaced as they came into contact with other religious traditions. With the advent of Christianity and the strengthening of the Faith followed by a growing literature of apologetic content, the Christian authors saw in the ceremonies performed by their followers all the representation of the existing evil in the polytheistic universe, proposing to combat them. The aim of this article is to discuss the intrinsic interpretations of the ancient mystery cults and to analyze the main points highlighted by Clement of Alexandria in his representations in his Protheptic (Exhortation to the Greeks).
