Does the media have a future?

As práticas midiáticas foram confi guradas como um modelo determinado, o um-paramuitos, que o paradigma da comunicação de massa pareceu automático. O paradigma resume-se no termo inglês “the media” ? “a mídia”. Mas e se a própria ideia de “a mídia” também estiver implodindo, já que as interfaces que chamamos de mídia sofreram uma transformação? Três dinâmicas são analisadas aqui – tecnológica, social e política ? e estão enfraquecendo substancialmente nossa ideia de “a mídia” como lugar privilegiado para acessar um mundo comum. O artigo conclui que, ao invés de entrar em colapso, a construção social “da mídia” passará a ser um lugar de intenso combate para forças concorrentes: fragmentação mercadológica versus pressões contínuas de centralização que se baseiam em novos rituais e mitos relacionados à mídia.Downloads
