This study investigates the series João sem Deus: a queda de Abadiânia to analyze which marketing and narrative strategies are adopted in a fictional production based on real events. I propose a two-pronged analysis: 1. market decisions and strategies; 2. analysis of the narrative structure. This proposal considers intra- and extra-diegetic elements and captures investments in the context of the new television in times of streaming and international co-productions. This study found an erasure of disclosures linked to a specific religion, an investment in the globalization of the narrative, and the construction of prototypical characters to feature abused women and summon melodramatic precepts for the narrative structure. This series also leads us to question which meanings of nation we are conveying in the new phase of television production by tackling a religious case with global projection.
