Abstract

This paper intends to analyze part of the artistic production by the songwriter Itamar Assumpção. In order to do so, we examine songs that verse on the phenomenon of corporeality throughout its lyrics and also study some other expressive modalities. The chosen songs enable us to discuss the songwriter’s performances concerning both the afro-perspective and the power of the body in face of the contingencies and the mechanisms of control that inflict the ordinary man.
