Abstract

Judith Butler's book Hate Speech: A Politics of the Performative, published by Editora Unesp in 2021 and originally released in 1997, contextualizes and questions the linguistic and social mechanisms that operate in abusive discourse, with a special focus on the experiences of marginalized groups. Thus, it offers us a lens through which to problematize contemporary society, especially in light of the proliferation of hate speech on digital networks and the growing use of artificial intelligence.
