The Slate-colored Hawk, Buteogallus schistaceus (Accipitridae), is a poorly known Amazonian raptor, particularly with regard to its breeding biology. Here we report the first documented nesting record of the species in Brazil, based on observations conducted at the Samuel Hydroelectric Reservoir, municipality of Itapuã do Oeste, Rondônia state. The nest was in a babassu palm (Attalea speciosa), 16 m above ground, and contained a single egg. Nest placement, architecture, egg measurements, adult behavior, and foraging observations are described. This record fills an important gap in the knowledge of the species’ reproductive biology and contributes to the documentation of Neotropical Accipitridae.
