Abstract

The Angatuba Ecological Station (AES), located in an ecotonal region between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado domains in southwestern São Paulo state, represents one of the few integral protected areas safeguarding interior Semideciduous forest remnants. We conducted rapid avifaunal inventories in December 2024 and in August 2025, integrating systematic field surveys with secondary data from published literature and ornithological platforms to update the knowledge of the local bird assemblage approximately 18 years after the last comprehensive survey. Primary data yielded 158 species and when combined with historical and secondary records (1984-2025), a total of 260 species were documented for AES, of which 215 were supported by documentation. A temporal accumulation curve highlights the continued addition of species over four decades, reflecting both genuine faunal updates and increased observer effort through citizen science platforms. Our results confirm the high conservation value of AES within the upper Paranapanema basin and underscore the importance of integrating historical, institutional, and community-based data to assess species persistence, regional connectivity, and conservation priorities in ecotonal neotropical landscapes.
