Online Submission

Initial Information

Pandaemonium accepts manuscripts in the following broad areas of German Studies: Teaching, literature, linguistics and translation. We also accept articles on cultural and intercultural topics. Manuscripts may be submitted in the following formats: unpublished articles; review articles; and reviews of dissertations, theses, translations and books (books must have been published within the last three years).

The journal accepts submissions continuously or in response to calls for papers in the form of thematic dossiers (see the 'News' tab). All articles undergo double-blind peer review.

Unpublished articles, i.e. articles that have not been published or submitted to other journals or editorial bodies simultaneously (even as translations), must comply with the following rules:

Manuscript format and preparation

Reading and complying with all of the editorial guidelines below is mandatory. Manuscripts must be submitted using the detailed template.

  • Languages: Portuguese, German, Spanish or English.

  • Articles must be between 15 and 30 pages long. Reviews must be between 3 and 7 pages long. The number of pages includes references and attachments.

  • Along with the manuscript submission, it is mandatory to fill out the Artificial Intelligence Use Declaration Form  in the same language as the submission and send it to the journal's email address: pandaemonium.germanicum@usp.br.

  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in the work not being accepted. In proven cases of plagiarism, the article will be rejected or removed from the journal.

1. Title and margins: The title should be centred and only the initial letters should be capitalised. Font: Avenir 26. The title must be translated into English in size 14 and placed in square brackets. Section title: Avenir 19.5, with no indentation and only the first letter capitalised. Use Arabic numerals for numbering. Subtitles: size 13.5.

The first abstract should be in English. At least one of the abstracts must be in English. The word 'Abstract' should be in bold (only the first letter should be capitalised), followed by a colon and the text of the abstract. The abstract should contain a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 200 words and be written in Times New Roman 11 with single spacing. The abstract text cannot be accompanied by citations and bibliographical references.

Important final remarks (required reading):

  • Articles undergo editorial screening. Those that match the journal's profile and comply with the submission rules will undergo blind peer review. If the evaluations differ, a third evaluation will be sought and the editors will make the final decision.

  • Since 2024, the journal has adopted continuous publication, adhering to national and international open science practice guidelines and recommendations from the Open Science Framework (OSF).

  • From 2025 onwards, the journal will also adopt the use of SciELO Preprints. Authors who wish to submit manuscripts through this channel should adhere to this model. These will then undergo initial moderation before proceeding to Pandaemonium Germanicum's internal double-blind review.

  • Regardless of whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected, it will remain in the SciELO Preprints system, even if it is submitted to other journals in the future.

  • The opinions and ideas expressed in the published articles are the responsibility of their respective authors.

  • The final version of the approved article will be published alongside the name(s) of the editor(s) responsible for the manuscript evaluation process.

  • Articles submitted for publication in this journal must not be submitted simultaneously to other journals or editorial bodies.

  • In line with open science practices, Pandaemonium Germanicum requires a Data Availability Statement to be included at the end of all manuscripts.

  • Pandaemonium Germanicum does not charge publication fees. In line with the non-profit nature of journals and the principle of open access, the SciELO Indexing Criteria require transparency in the charging of fees.

  • Pandaemonium adheres to the Diamond Open Access priority model (CC-BY licence, no publication fee). In exceptional cases, and upon justification of the sustainability of the editorial operation, the adoption of the Gold model (CC-BY licence) with a fee is permitted.
