Abstract

This article addresses the processes and design experimentation for the development of a toy book entitled “O Quintal Do Erê” aimed at children and adults interested in themes linked to African ancestry in Brazil by recording the reflections resulting from observing the design path involved in the book development. It sought material and immaterial remains from African culture through Candomblé, focusing on the orixás and erês who are children’s representatives. Its purpose is to awaken the reader’s curiosity to explore the history behind unconventional pages of a book in the form of an object. The research is structured in literature, in the fundamentals of playing from the child’s perspective and in the observation of the conceptual and practical construction of the book-object.

  • Eunice Gonçalves Queiroz, Universidade Federal da Bahia. Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo
    Master in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Bahia - UFBA, with the theme of African Culture; Graduated in Industrial Design from the University of Guarulhos; Member of the Etnicidades/CNPq research group; Professional experience as an Educator, Social Media and Photography.
  • Cyntia Carneiro de Souza , Universidade Federal do Pará. Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo
    Architect and Urban Planner graduated from the Federal University of Pará, she works with the creation and development of theme park projects for Mauricio de Sousa Produções.
  • Josivan Pereira da Silva, Universidade de São Paulo. Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo e de Design
    PhD student at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at USP, Master's degree at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities at the University of São Paulo - EACH-USP, Degree in architecture and urbanism. Develops research on colors applied to residential environments.
