Abstract

In this article, some dimensions of social suffering (humiliation, shame, lack of acknowledgment) are analyzed as well as their effects in adolescents from subaltern social classes. This is examined in three different contexts: social, groups and community. The hypothesis underlined is that social suffering lacks visibility: it takes place inside subjectivities without being shared collectively. The last part of the paper is dedicated to analyzing possible forms of institutional and organizational intervention aiming at generating practices that focus symbolic violence, which causes feelings that disqualify the subjects.
