Abstract

This article intends to be a retlection about the studies of afro-brazilian religions on the Candomble insertion in the urban context of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo . It critically reviews analytical pairs of opposites such as purity/syncretism ; Northeast/Southeast; nago/bantu, which are present in classic and recent interpre tiv e models based on Macumba, Umbanda and Candomble ethnographic data
