Abstract

This article constitutes an ethnographic account of the Morar Carioca Program, lauched by the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro in 2010 with the objective of urbanizing all the city’s favelas by 2020. This narrative builds upon the experience and data collected in the six months I acted as coordinator of the social component of one of the architectural firms responsible for elaborating the project for the so called “grouping 26” of the program, comprised of eight small scale communities located in the vicinity of one of the main sites of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
