Author Biographies

  • Viola Castellano, Universidade Humboldt

    Viola Castellano is a Research Associate at the Institute for European Ethnology at Humboldt University in Berlin, where she is co-principal investigator of the project “Welfare in Question: Understandings of Social Protection in Germany and Italy.” Previously, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bayreuth, Bologna University, and at the Center for Analysis and Planning at the Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento in São Paulo. Her research focuses on welfare and migration policies, the European border regime, humanitarianism, and racialization.

    Mestra pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia Social da Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Graduada em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP), Campus de Araraquara. Membro integrante do Nupre, Núcleo de Estudos de Política, Religião e Espaço Público, na Universidade de São Paulo (USP).
