Abstract

Writing Culture criticism, addressed to ethnographic text, did not affect the anthropological method itself, fieldwork as conceived by Malinowski. Furthermore, this criticism helped to spread Malinowskian fieldwork to humanities and arts. Traditional fieldwork, however, does not suit to the new topics of anthropological inquiry in a more complex, integrated and fragmented world produced by globalization. This paper, originally written for a conference, claims the reinvention of the imaginary of anthropological fieldwork based on its appropriation by theater and film arts. Grounded in his exchanges with the Venezuelan scenographer Fernando Calzadilla, the author propounds the replacement of distanced and spatially limited Malinowskian mise-en-scène for a multi-sited fieldwork built on complicit collaborations.
