Abstract

This article analyses the process of institutionalisation of the Apparitions of Our Lady in Angüera - Bahia while giving particular attention to the seer of the visions. The ethnography of the tenth anniversary of the apparitions serves as the point of departure: at this event the Virgin Mary solicited the construction of a chapel. The ethnographic data are discussed by means of the interpretative model proposed by Turner. At the same time I discuss the possible influence from Weber on Turner's model.
