This article brings up the hypothesis that a significant part of the scholars who study the candomble and take part in it intend to turn it from a subaltern religion into an erudite one. Such attempt is made through the construction of an orthodoxy, a developed and compact mythology, and an explicit theology based on the concept of "secrecy" which is discussed in the paper.Downloads
