This article is an exercise in comprehending a catholic festival and, at the same time, it is a reflection on the anthropologic work, as it presents already published texts. These previous studies, based on fieldwork conducted in 2000 and 2002, argue that this festival, particularly the roast chicken auction, would be enlightened by Marcel Mauss’s theory of the gift and an analysis in which the chicken would be regarded as a comic representation of society. However, two recent visits to the festival, in 2009 and 2010, brought new data, that made the analysis more complex. In short, this article reflects about festivals and temporariness and the validity of anthropological knowledge.Downloads
