Abstract

This paper examines a particular case of the processes of formationof national communities in the late nineteenth and early twentiethcentury in Latin America. Specifically, we consider the process in which theNational Council of Education was becoming the guiding power of nationaleducation and the value of the publication “The Common Education Monitor”by analyzing a census of musical tastes among Argentine children. Theanalysis of this survey will allow us to observe the performative dimensionof the state speeches and performances in Argentina and thus closer to theformation of patriotic subjectivities through artistic practices.
