Abstract

his paper’s starting point and its argumentative focus lies on the matter of the subject of rights. This is a central issue on discussions about the construction of a “Human Rights culture” that has been neglected, leaving open an entire field of thought on the experiential dimension of subjects. I consider the subject of rights as a political and analytical project that is urgent and essential for the current period of Human Rights stabilization in Brazil. I understand that bringing these issues to debate is one way to overcome antagonisms and dichotomies aiming to be more effective in the project of a “culture of peace.” Moreover, the very idea of “culture of peace” dispenses from a dynamic and complex notion of culture that goes beyond the notions of repertoire and variable analysed here. We consider, minimally, that culture is understood as an “arrangement” in which the subjects act out, creating and giving meaning to their action.
