Um documento falso sobre a conquista do território dos índios Goitacá no século XVII

Resumen

ln 1893, the Revista do Instituto histórico e Geographico Brazileiro (Journal of the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute) published a document about the conquest occurred in the 17th century of the lands of the Goitacá indians, also known as "Cainpos dos Goitacazes". ln spite of the suspicions concerning its origins, which have been used by historians and anthropologists thereafter as a reliable source of information. If authentic, this document could be of deep interest to ethnohistorians and researches of the History of lhe Indian people. This article points out some inconsistencies between the style used in lhe document and the documentary style typical for that period; and , similarly, incongruities between some historical data contained in it, as compared to those obtained from reliable sources. ln conclusion, the author argues that the document at issues in fact a fake from the 19th century, the characleristics of which suggest a document forged for the purpose of land squatting
