Abstract

The object of this study are the 19th century festivals which took place in Minas Gerais such as they were seen, described, analyzed and interpreted by the travelers who visited those lands. A central issue is here traced, namely the meaning of party and its concerning places in collective life, especially in Brazil [which is after all the country of Carnival].
