Abstract

In this article we intend to examine the relations existing between forms of cultural expression of youngsters related to hip-hop and the political activity of some of them in the collective articulation of the so-called posses. We think that is relatively recent political participation of youngsters related to this type of cultural movement in the political scene and we are interested on understanding how this happens. Who are those protagonists? Which are the forms and priorities of articulation? As well, we demonstrate how some youth cultural expressions are becoming a feature of the youth protagonism emphasise in contemporary Brazil. The research was accomplished with emphasis on the participant observation of hip-hop collectives, along with interviews with some of the youngsters belonging to posses involved with political parties.
