The itinerary of Carmem Miranda is very closely related to the migratory phenomenon. Born in Portugal, Carmem emigrated very young, with her family, to Rio de Janeiro. After she became a famous star in Brazil, she left for the United States. This article examines the construction of the "Baiana" persona she created and incorporated, in a way read differently in Brazil and in the United States, with the different images from the"Brazilianity" it carried and aroused. The body and the aspect of Carmem Miranda are inseparable from these readings and from the misunderstanding which her migrant itinerary provoked.Downloads
