The paper has the goal to identify the web predominant utilization in Information Technology firms, operating in Brazil, in its relation to business partners so as to obtain competitive advantages. The theoretical review demonstrates that firm can utilize the web to both transactions, to obtain efficiency, and communication, with large possibilities of use. Advantages can be conquered either by using the web as a driver or not. The use of the web is investigated to answer the following question: the use of the web in the relation between firms with strategic alliances in the Information Technology sector is really a source of competitive advantage? It was used descriptive, factorial and ANOVA statistics. The results show the prominence use of the web as a communication toll and less relevance as a driver to obtain better results. Besides, the web does not act as a dominant role to obtain competitive advantages; this evidence contradicts some theoretical approaches on the web as a necessary condition to survive in the market.Downloads
