Abstract

This article analyzes the sponsorship contracts through which the public administration sponsors private initiatives of public interest. Initially, it briefly defines and characterizes the sponsorship. It then points out some of the guidelines of the publicity in the Brazilian public administration. Given this background, it characterizes the sponsorship contract as an instrument of consecution of the public interest in each specific case. These contracts may be used as a means of commercial marketing, social fomentation or legitimizing administrative activity. In conclusion, it highlights that sponsoring role of the public administration is a legitimate and relevant means of concretization of the administrative activity and the public interest.
