Abstract

This work is resulted of an inquiry carried through for professor and students of Pedagogy in the "Prodocência Project: implantation of laboratories for the teaching and teacher development in Pedagogy, Mathematics and Physics" in the Center of Teachers Development of the University Federal of Bahia's Reconcave with support and financing of the MEC. Through the methodology research-action activities in a group of third series of Basic School had been developed, of a municipal school of Amargosa, characterized as having difficulties in the process of reading understanding. Ahead of the characteristics of the investigated group, the team of researchers opted to the use of comic books for the development of the work. This inquiry had duration of a period of learning semester distributed in twelve sessions, being that in the first one a daily pretest was applied and in last at a later test. During the ten effective sessions intervention they had been proposals to the classroom activities involving: literal and graphical exploration of comic books for knowledge of personages, aspects; reading comics and answers the questions with different levels of complexity; reading of comics for elaboration of questions; ordinance of the comic books; construction of a comic on the basis of the images; explanation of the attitudes of the personages on the basis of the understanding of its characteristics; loan of comic books for reading. These activities had searched to contribute for the reduction of the difficulties in the development of the reading understanding, understanding that this does not scrumble the mere decoding of the text, but the understanding and reflection on the same, understanding what is not explicit. To the end of the intervention work the used pointers to survey the progress of the group with regard to reading had demonstrated the development of the reading understanding of 75% of the students. This demonstrates that comic books can efficiently be used as resource of pedagogical mediation to contribute in the formation of readers in the initial series of basic education
