Abstract

This critique of the satirical poetry of Gregorio de Matos opposes the barroque satire as formal rethorics and as a referential for specific historical and local discourses. The literary conventions reinforces institutional values in such a way that satire is an orthodox reinforcement of normative values. Other alternative or critical perspectives are out of the discursive possibilities. As a mixed genre, the satire dramatizes themes thro conventional topoi and persona, as well as essential contradictions and social tensions within slave colonial society of Bahia.
