It takes a curator-diplomat to raise a palace-museum

The relationship between art and architecture, the so-called synthesis of the arts, will be one of the characteristics of modern Brazilian architecture as a design element - like panels, sculpture, murals and gardens - inside buildings and in their facades or in public spaces. The city of Brasília has in its architectural art a fundamental object for the image grounding of the city. When analyzing the artists involved in the construction of the city of Brasília, from the 1950s, the presence of works predominates from professional circuit very limited, in direct relation to the group of modern architecture in Rio de Janeiro, especially with Oscar Niemeyer.
It is in opposition to this intended synthesis of the arts anchored in a single group that appears the Itamaraty Palace. From this peculiar object, this research will debate the rol of diplomate Wladimir Murtinho on integrated art in the Palace and challenge the dominant view of one single movement of modern art and architecture in Brazil.
