Tarifa Zero in mobility, imagining equality for a present utopia

Abstract

The following essay starts from the concerns about current times, pointed out by the French anthropologist Marc Augé, and systematized in three axes: the hegemony of the present, in whose perverse face lies the discredit of politics and science; the absence of meaning, resulting in exacerbated consumption as an effect of the acceleration of everyday life; and imagination, whose effort and utopia are based on imagining humanity from an existence that minimizes inequalities, to paraphrase Augé's title. The text proposes thinking about these three perspectives in relation to mobility and specifically to Tarifa Zero, or free pass, in Brazil. On the one hand, there is a moment of political changes and national polarizations, on the other, a tense scenario, between rights and manifestos, between the attempt to contain democracy and civil rights by violent means. It becomes more and more urgent to imagine in the present.
