Abstract

The Archaeology of southern Brazilian highlands had new fieldworks and new approaches during the last twenty years; new proposals and new points of view allowed a discussion of old paradigms, interpretative models and the understanding of the identified phenomena. We intend to discuss these models from two approaches: first a review of works already produced and second the continuation of fieldwork in the Archaeological Area of São José do Cerrito, SC. From this approach, it was possible to expose new ideas about the emergence of complexity of Southern Jê populations.
