Biografia cultural dos objetos com inscrições: uma metodologia para o estudo dos aspectos sociais e culturais da prática epigráfica

Este artigo propõe uma discussão sobre as especificidades da fonte epigráfica e a formação da epigrafia enquanto um campo científico interdisciplinar. O objetivo é propor uma metodologia de análise das inscrições gregas e latinas que incorpore não somente os seus textos, mas também os dados arqueológicos referentes aos respectivos suportes materiais e as informações relativas a suas inserções no espaço físico. Para isso, o argumento é elaborado a partir da crítica às formas, categorias e vieses documentais sedimentados pelo campo da epigrafia, desde as primeiras descrições feitas pela pesquisa antiquária entre os séculos XVI e XVIII até a formação dos corpora e sylloges epigráficos no século XIX, além da ampliação do campo nos séculos XX e XXI. Um dos vieses documentais identificados é a frequente tendência em dissociar o texto das inscrições de seu suporte material. Como alternativa, o artigo propõe uma metodologia que envolve tanto a criação de um modelo de organização e documentação das informações provenientes dos objetos com inscrições quanto a investigação orientada para cinco processos históricos que caracterizam a prática epigráfica (concepção, elaboração, construção, instalação e ressignificação). Dessa forma, argumenta-se a favor da historicização das inscrições seguindo suas particularidades enquanto fontes textuais e materiais, abrindo espaço para a investigação dos aspectos sociais e culturais da prática epigráfica.
