Consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e risco de câncer

Cerca de 2,5 milhões de mortes no mundo por ano ocorrem devido ao consumo de bebidas alcoólicas. O álcool é reconhecido como cancerígeno para os humanos pela Agência Internacional de Pesquisa em Câncer da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Há evidências de associação entre consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e aumento do risco dos tumores de
cavidade oral, faringe, laringe, esôfago, fígado, colorretal e mama feminina. Considerando a alta incidência, o câncer de
mama é o principal câncer atribuível ao álcool entre as mulheres. As estimativas indicam que o consumo de álcool seria
responsável por 5,2% de todas as mortes por câncer entre os homens e 1,7% entre as mulheres no mundo.
