Abstract

This article examines the relationship between television and history in order to understand the status of television news reports from the Tupi Collection of the Brazilian Cinematheque as historical sources. Along this trajectory, it revisits key authors, discussing the theoretical frameworks that guide research in the field. It situates the issues concerning television archives in Brazil and presents the work developed within the Fapesp thematic project Audiovisual, history and preservation: the place of Brazilian newsreels and television news reports in the construction of memory (1946-1974).
