My meeting with Rouanet came about through our affinity of interest in the Baroque as an aesthetic expression that is very much in tune with the ethics of psychoanalysis, and in baroquism as a key to understanding the construction of Brazilian culture, contemplating the way in which it took place here the absorption of antithetical elements that, as he highlights, combines Renaissance humanism with the most exalted religiosity, the flesh with the spirit, hedonism with holiness, the earth with the sky.
