Poverty is a condition that should be discussed not only from a socio-political point of view, but also from a legal standpoint. There are several historical rights, nowadays enshrined in the Brazilian Federal Constitution, intended for people in such condition. The criminal law and criminal procedural law share many of them, and they are supported by State initiatives such as, for example, the structuring of offices for public defenders. However, despite the great advances in the manner in which laws are worded, the daily routine during lawsuits and in penitentiaries bespeaks a very different reality.Downloads
