Abstract

What can be learned from the panic that broke out in September 2008 and from the financial crisis originated in the U.S. financial system? Such turmoil triggered profound impacts on global geopolitics, trade between countries, in the habits of the people, provision of jobs as well as in the pace of investments. This essay discusses the main dimensions of the dossier Global Crisis and highlights the foundations for a new development cycle. New public policies and innovative private endeavours which reconcile economic rigor, social responsibility and environmental sustainability are preconditions for a XXI century development cycle.
