This text seeks to present an account of the history of Chantecler, a record company from São Paulo, which throughout the 1960s and 1970s played a key role in forming artists linked to genres then underrated by major record companies, especially country, traditional romantic and regional music. Besides that, this text reflects on the process of stratification of popular music consumption, which started to be noticed in the country in the 1960s; and also, in that context, on the role that was taken up by national record companies as major international companies were establishing themselves in the country.Downloads
