Abstract

Along nineteenth century, many pragmatic manuals circulated in Brazil. Conceived as works to guide professional practices, they could also be read under rhetorical precepts, which were supposed in extinction since the advent of Romanticism. In this work, we examine Novo manual epistolar ou Arte de escrever, published in 1882 by Machado Coelho.
