Abstract

The onset and popularization of internet throughout the past decades have been followed by positive expectations as regards its effects on democratic citizenship. This research proposes to explore qualitatively the views of internet users themselves on internet and on the role played by online political information in the routine of a presidential campaign, from the point of view of a common citizen as a voter. We have opted to investigate the non-expert but steady internet user, to whom internet has become a key tool for the circulation of political opinions. This is a preliminary approach making use of the 2010 presidential election in Brazil as a case study, but focusing on the more general habits and practices of internet users as regards information, and mainly political information.
