Resumen

This article attempts to show that the current crisis experienced by the Brazilian electrical sector is not only related to unexpected hydrological droughts. Although one needs to take into account the relatively severe hydric constraints, the critical signs had already been evidenced about four years ago. Despite the enormous differences of the Brazilian case, several misguided policies have been implemented here under strong inspiration of the type of market model adopted, influenced by a mimicry of thermal-based systems. This adaptation modeling generates a highly volatile market where paltry and priceless values come one after another. The crisis is far from being over, since the structural basis of the model is not being questioned.
