The Presence of The Term “Gender Ideology” in the Official Institutional Speeches of President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) Available at the Library of the Presidency of the Republic

This article analyzes the official and institutional speeches made by Jair Bolsonaro during his term as president and available on the official website of the Library of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, surveying the number of times the term “gender ideology” was present in the speeches. speeches by Bolsonaro, and in which regions and contexts this occurred. The term, over the last few years, has been adopted by politicians on the right to refer to guidelines of LGBT+ and/or feminist movements in a pejorative way and was present with emphasis in Bolsonaro’s election campaign in 2018, and also in his last term as a federal deputy. The analysis reached the conclusion that the presence of the term “gender ideology” still had some importance in the first year of Bolsonaro’s term, directing its frequency in the following two years and having an increase, with a great concentration of the theme precisely in a context prior to the election period of 2022.
